The classic Delhi–Agra–Jaipur route

The standard loop runs Delhi to Agra (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort) to Jaipur (Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal) and back to Delhi, usually via Fatehpur Sikri on the Agra–Jaipur leg. Three days is enough to hit all three cities without lingering; five or six days gives each city proper time instead of a single rushed afternoon.

Luxury option

Same three-city route, upgraded throughout: 5-star hotels, a chauffeur-driven sedan rather than a standard tourist vehicle, and private guides with skip-the-line entry timed to avoid the worst of the crowds.

Extensions beyond the triangle

Four routes add a fourth stop onto the classic loop: Ranthambore for a tiger safari, Varanasi for the Ganges ghats and evening aarti, Amritsar for the Golden Temple and the Wagah border ceremony, or Khajuraho and Orchha for their temple architecture. Each roughly doubles the trip length in exchange for a genuinely different experience from the core three cities.

If this is a first visit and time is tight, the three-day classic loop covers Delhi, Agra and Jaipur without extra stops. If comfort matters more than cost, the luxury option upgrades hotels and transport on the same route. And if you have a week or more, adding Ranthambore, Varanasi, Amritsar or Khajuraho turns a single India Golden Triangle tour into a broader introduction to the country rather than just its three best-known cities.

How many days do you need?

Two days covers Agra and Jaipur only, skipping Delhi sightseeing — a fit for travellers with limited time who are already passing through Delhi. Three days is the minimum for all three cities. Five to six days removes the rush. Seven-plus days means you're adding an extension city, not just slowing down the core three.

Best time to travel

October through March, for the same reason it's the right window for Rajasthan generally: daytime temperatures that make walking around Amber Fort or standing in the Taj Mahal's queue tolerable, rather than the 40°C-plus heat of an April-to-June trip.
